BaseconBot
BaseconBot belongs to Basecon, a directory of RPG, card game and board game conventions in the US. It reads convention websites and event calendars to keep dates and places correct.
What it reads
- A convention's home page, and a calendar file (.ics) if the page links to one.
- The dates, name, city and state. It does not copy descriptions, photos, schedules, attendee lists or anything behind a login.
How it behaves
- It reads your robots.txt first and stays away from anything it disallows. If robots.txt cannot be read, it stays out.
- It waits at least 5 seconds between requests to your site, longer if your robots.txt sets a crawl delay.
- It checks a site once a day at most, less often for conventions that are far away, and it asks your server whether the page changed before downloading it again.
- It never signs in and never submits forms.
How to stop it
Add this to your robots.txt. BaseconBot honors it on its next visit.
